This week we lost a great one — Koko, the gorilla. Koko, whose extraordinary ability to communicate with humans and aptitude with American Sign Language helped show the world the emotional depth and intelligence of animals, died in her sleep this week, according to the Gorilla Foundation, the Northern California nonprofit that oversaw her care.

Koko told us what it is like to be a gorilla, and she told us in a language that humans can understand. One of the things she and the other signing apes taught us is about the continuity of species. The message coming out of them is that humans aren’t necessarily so special.

Plus, Trump continues to be a horrible, horrible, human being, Beyoncé and Jay-Z give us another surprise album, Rachel Maddow couldn’t keep it together and more.

Koko the Gorilla Died Peacefully in Her Sleep This Week
“The Gorilla Foundation is sad to announce the passing of our beloved Koko,” the research center says. Koko, who was 46, died in her sleep Tuesday morning, the Gorilla Foundation said. At birth, she was named Hanabi-ko — Japanese for “fireworks child,” because she was born at the San Francisco Zoo on the Fourth of July in 1971.

During her broadcast speech, Brown delivered love to her fans and a message to her bullies.

“Since I know there are many young people watching this — and even for the adults, too — they could probably use the reminder that I was taught: If you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say it. There should be no space in this world for bullying, and I’m not going to tolerate it, and neither should any of you.” The Stranger Things actress’ powerful speech comes just days after she quit Twitter because of cyber bullying.

This cast is having a helluva lotta fun. Get ready to laugh yourself into a tizzy honey.

The media mogul’s fortune hit a record $4 billion on Monday to make her the first black female entrepreneur on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a ranking of the world’s 500 richest people. She’s at 494, just behind Mark Cuban and Ross Perot.

Heather Locklear was reportedly taken to a hospital over the weekend after a family member called 911 to report that the Melrose Place star was threatening to kill herself. Although she did not have access to weapons, the dispatch operator said she was looking for a gun to shoot herself. Hopefully Heather is getting the help that she desperately needs.
Trump Orders End to His Family Separation Policy at the Border, but May Be a Temporary Quick Fix
Yet Trump said that he wanted to continue enforcing a strong policy at the border, an issue he campaigned on: “We are keeping a very powerful border and it continues to be a zero tolerance. We have zero tolerance for people that enter our country illegally.” There is also no policy in place for reuniting the kids who have already been separated.

Also, Trump ordered Attorney General Jeff Sessions to file a request in court to change the settlement in Flores v Reno — setting up a likely lengthy and intense litigation process that would seek the power to detain families in government custody indefinitely. Which makes no sense whatsoever.

“I’m hereby directing the Department of Defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish a space force as the sixth branch of the armed forces.” It seems as if Trump doesn’t realize that creating a new joint military command is largely the purview of Congress, which would have to provide the authority and any funding or shifting of money to a new unit. So yeah, 1 1/2 years in and Trump still doesn’t understand how the government works.

An evangelical leader who asked to not be named tells CBN News Ivanka Trump donated $50,000 to a church in Plano, Texas after hearing about its efforts to help immigrant children at the southern border. Ivanka reportedly reached out to the church and made the private donation before the announcement of her father’s executive order which takes steps to keep immigrant families together at the border. I wonder who could have wanted the information leaked?

“Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November. Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solves this decades old problem. We can pass great legislation after the Red Wave!,” Trump tweeted. A red wave? In your dreams.
  • The recent G7 Summit has been largely described a contentious event, and, according to CBS News senior contributor Ian Bremmer, included a moment in which President Trump tossed Starburst on the table. Did someone not get his afternoon poop in?
  • Ivanka Trump on Wednesday thanked her father for signing an executive order that will keep families detained at the border together, marking her first public statement on the issue of family separation. A policy that he initiated. WTF?

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was told to leave a Lexington, Virginia, restaurant Friday night, she said on Twitter Saturday morning. Sanders said the owner of the Red Hen in the Shenandoah Valley asked her to leave because she works for President Trump. “I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and cooperation,” owner Stephanie Wilkinson recalled to The Post of her confrontation with Sanders. “I said, ‘I’d like to ask you to leave.'”

Her father, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, blasted the owners of Red Hen, posting on Twitter: “Bigotry. On the menu at Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington VA. Or you can ask for the “Hate Plate”. And appetizers are “small plates for small minds.” So what about the gay couples who are denied wedding cake? Talk about a huge double standard Mike.

On Tuesday night, while reading a harrowing report about the border crisis getting even more grim, Rachel Maddow broke down in tears live on her MSNBC show. She was reading breaking news regarding the Trump administration’s continued separation of young children, even babies, from their parents at the border.

“This is incredible, Trump administration officials have been sending babies and other young children…To at least three…” Maddow said. But she couldn’t continue.

This was heartbreaking on so many levels. After the show, Maddow apologized for not being able to hold it together. “If nothing else, it is my job to actually be able to speak while I’m on TV,” she wrote. But then she tweeted what she was trying to read on the air: a report from The Associated Press that revealed the U.S. has sent babies and young children to “tender age” shelters after separating them from their parents.

She had no reason to apologize.

DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen insisted conditions at the detention facilities are up to par, when asked by reporters if the Trump administration’s policy of separating children from their parents at the border amounts to “child abuse.”

“We have high standards. We give them meals and we give them education and we give them medical care. There are videos, there are TVs,” Nielsen said in response to a question from CNN’s Jeff Zeleny. “I visited the detention centers myself.”

WTF? That’s like saying, “we’re giving them candy,” and all is good. This has to stop now!

First Lady Melania Trump visited a detention center in Texas housing immigrant children separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. As part of her visit, she toured the facility (not one of the mass detention centers) and participated in a roundtable with the facility’s staff to learn more about the plight of the children. She asked the staff, “How I can help…these children to reunite with their families as quickly as possible?”

Comedian Tom Arnold said Friday that he and President Trump’s former longtime personal lawyer are teaming up to “take down” the president. However, Friday night, Cohen tweeted he “did not discuss being on his show nor did we discuss @POTUS. #done #ridiculous.”

This is prison. No ifs ands or buts.

The ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 10 Reunion Had An Emotional Talk About Faith & Acceptance
This week’s Drag Race saw the queens reunite to discuss the season’s highlights and drama, and to address unresolved issues. To say it was dramatic would be a hell of an understatement. Queens cried, queens walked out, RuPaul delivered another fiery-ass monologue. Who do you think is going to take home the title?

The mellowest culinary competition of them all, The Great British Baking Show, returns to PBS for its fifth American season. The episodes that will start to air in America this week actually ran in the UK way back in 2012, when they were the third series of the Bake Off.

Get your poop on! If you’ve ever wished pooping were easier, the Squatty Potty, could help. Melania Trump Wore a Jacket Saying ‘I Really Don’t Care’ on Her Way to Texas Shelters
Talk about a fashion misstep. Seriously, WTF was she thinking?

First Lady Melania Trump has been criticized for the choice of her jacket worn on a trip to a migrant child detention centre in Texas. Mrs. Trump was spotted in the jacket, which featured graffiti writing on the back with the words “I don’t really care do u?,” as she boarded a plane. Her spokeswoman said “there was no hidden message” in her sartorial choice.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said Friday that he doesn’t want Somali Muslims working at meat-packing plants in his district because they want consumers of pork to be sent to hell.

In a Breitbart News radio interview, the eight-term congressman, known for his inflammatory anti-immigrant rhetoric, said his views were shaped by a conversation with Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), whom he called “the lead Muslim in Congress.” This is who is supposed to be representing his constituents in Washington. Pathetic.

AMC Theaters Aims Squarely At MoviePass With A $20 Per Month Ticket Subscription Service
This might be worth signing up for. AMC Theatres, the world’s largest movie theater chain, on Wednesday unveiled a $20-a-month subscription service to rival the flagging MoviePass.

The theater chain announced a new service to its loyalty program, AMC Stubs, allowing subscribers to see up to three movies a week for a monthly fee of $19.95. That’s more expensive than the $9.95 monthly fee for MoviePass, but AMC’s plan gives access to premium format screenings like IMAX and 3-D.

Washington is a hipper city now than it’s ever been. The problem is, if you work for Trump, it’s also more hostile territory than it’s ever been. Young staffers have had to develop a keen sense of just when to have “The Talk” with romantic partners. “I’ve still been able to hook up with women,” says a male former White House staffer. “But I know that I need to be careful about broaching the Trump stuff.” 😆

Splinter released Miller’s phone number, so the taxpayers for whom he works could share some direct feedback about his immigration policy initiatives.

This is one of the text messages that was sent to Stephen: Hey Stephen. I just removed a brown-hued infant from his mother as they were innocently walking down the street, and wonder if you can tell me where the drop-off center is. Thanks!

The image of a migrant child that broke a photographer’s heart
The photo, by Pulitzer Prize-winning Getty Images photographer John Moore, shows a 2-year-old child dressed in a bright pink sweater crying helplessly as she looks up at her mother. The woman’s face is unseen in the shot but, according to Moore, she was being searched by a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent at the time. What you didn’t see was Moore, crouched six feet away, who had to literally catch his breath after taking the picture because it pulled something out of him.

While appearing Tuesday on Fox News, former senior Democratic National Committee adviser Zac Petkanas shared an anecdote he had read about “a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome” who had been “taken from her mother and put in a cage.”

“I personally think they should shoot them all at the border and call it good,” McAllen reportedly said. “It’ll save us hard working AMERICAN’S billions of dollars on our taxes!! ;)”
